Draft Result Drafted in the 2009 Draft by the Denver Broncos in the 1st round with the #18 pick.
Great at stopping the run, but does not generate much of a pass rush. Denver still has to address more needs on defense before they improve, but this is a start.

Strengths Came out of nowhere as a senior to position himself to be a first day pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. In a draft full of undersized defensive ends, Ayers standouts out for having 4-3 DE size 6'3 (6'3 270). Above average athlete who shows a nice combination of power and speed. Sheds blocks well and showed the ability to make plays in the opposing backfield as senior. Has experience moving inside on passing downs. A standout at the 2009 Senior Bowl. All-SEC first team on a bad Tennessee team as a senior.

Weaknesses Not a great pass rusher or tackler. Only had 9 sacks in his entire Tennessee career (and just 4 during his breakout senior year). A bit of a one year wonder. Was merely an average player prior to his senior season. Has had maturity issues prior to 2008. Is he a late bloomer or someone who just turned on the lightbulb for a NFL payday.
