Considering the talent in the trenches still left on the board, I am surprised they went with a safety. Delmas is the top safety in the draft and should be able to start right away in the Lions porous secondary.

Strengths Not as well known playing in the MAC but Delmas is a good all-around safety. He is a sure tackler in run support and shows excellent instincts in coverage. A big hitter who will lay the lumber on players coming across the middle. Good awareness in the back of the defense. Hard worker. Arguably the best free safety prospect in the draft. Had an excellent week at the senior bowl flashing nice athletic ability and coverage skills but more importantly he showed excellent intangibles and leadership.

Weaknesses Does not possess elite speed and needs to avoid a bad 40 at the combine. Not the type of guy you want manning up wide receivers on a regular basis (but will have not problem with backs and tight ends). A tad undersized and will need to get stronger.
