Draft Result Drafted in the 2009 Draft by the Oakland Raiders in the 1st round with the #7 pick.
I'm not shocked by this pick. The Raiders love speed and Heyward-Bey is the fastest receiver on the board. This team should have traded down if they wanted Heyward-Bey.

Strengths A three year starter at Maryland. Best size/speed combination in the draft among WRs. Big and explosive with deep threat capabilities. Played in a pro style offense at Maryland. Since Ralph Friedgen took over as head coach at Maryland in 2001, the Terps have done at an outstanding job of preparing players for the NFL. Heyward-Bey is coming off of a tremendous combine in which he not only clocked the fastest 40 among wide receivers but the fast 40 overall.

Weaknesses The statistics do not show Heyward-Bey as an elite talent. Part of the problem was his QB but he will need to answer the production question. Struggles to maintain a high level of play. Had problems with drops this past season. Needs to maintain a higher level of focus. Tremendous upside but he screams boom or bust type.
