Williams has the potential to be an excellent slot receiver and gives the Lions offense some Wildcat potential with his versatility.

Strengths In 2005, Derrick Williams was the #1 high school player in America, led Penn St to the Orange Bowl and looked to be a future top 5 pick. Unfortunately Michael Robinson left after the 2005 season and Williams struggled with Anthony Morelli at QB. Now with Darryl Clark running Galen Hall's wipe open offense, Derrick Williams has emerged in his senior system. More quick than fast, Williams is a playmaker possessing excellent run after catch skills. Solid hands. Excellent downfield blocker. Could make an early impact as a kick or punt returner. A versatile athlete who reminds me of Hines Ward for his ability to contribute in a multitude of ways. Showed explosiveness and an ability to get open at the senior bowl.

Weaknesses Needs to improve his route running. Had leveled off his production after a good freshman season before re-emerging as a top talent as a senior. With Michael Crabtree, Jeremy Maclin and Percy Harvin potentially coming out Derrick Williams faces an uphill battle to be a first round pick. Also there will be some scouts wondering if the system is responsible for the success of Derrick Williams. Struggled with his hands esp. fielding punts at the Senior Bowl.
