Draft Result Drafted in the 2009 Draft by the Detroit Lions in the 1st round with the #20 pick.
Pettigrew gives the Lions productivity at tight end and another blocker. He can provide an escape outlet for Stafford when he's not blocking. A bit of a surprise but Pettigrew is the top TE in the draft and should be a nice fit for their offense.

Strengths Outstanding hands and footwork. Positions body as a basketball player in the passing game. Excellent red zone target at 6'5. Good hands. Fluid hips allow Pettigrew to make people miss in the open field. A prototypical two way tight end. A good and willing blocker (which is a surprise coming out of the spread) who can be a force in the ground game.

Weaknesses Lacks the speed to stretch defenses down the seam. More of a short to intermediate receiver. Plays in an offense which is completely opposite of a pro style system. Route running could also use some work. Has had some off the field issues.
