Draft Result Drafted in the 2009 Draft by the Cleveland Browns in the 1st round with the #21 pick.
Cleveland keeps trading back, and gets their man. Alex Mack is an excellent center and helps solidify the offensive line. A very similar move to the one Mangine made his first year in New York when he drafted Nick Mangold in round 1. By passing on Beanie Wells they obviously they still believe in Jamal Lewis or they expect to get a running back in the next couple of rounds.

Strengths Mack is possibly the best overall offensive lineman on the board. A zone blocking specialist and great awareness as a pass protector. Ideal size and agility to play in a zone scheme at the next leve. A smart technician with above average awareness. Displays excellent quickness allowing him to set up quickly and be able to pull. Experienced. The best center prospect since Nick Mangold. If he were a tackle he would be a top 5-10 pick but centers don't carry the same value which is why you see him in the late 1st or early 2nd in most mocks. Solidified his hold on the #1 Center slot based on a great week at the Senior Bowl. Also proved he could play guard at the Senior Bowl.

Weaknesses Some scouts will pigeonhole Alex Mack as a zone blocking center and overlook him for other centers who played in a power running scheme. While he fits best in that scheme he has the skill level to play in any scheme. Mack lacks ideal strength and can pushed back. Has a tendency to get too high at times in pass protection.
