2009 NFL MOCK DRAFT

BY DAN WERNERY

1 St Louis Michael Oher OT Ole Miss
Orlando Pace is nearing the end of his career and the Rams cannot afford another season with Marc Bulger and Steven Jackson playing behind that offensive line
2 Kansas City Matthew Stafford # QB Kansas City
The Chiefs have failed to draft and develop a franchise signal caller since the Nixon Administration, so now is the time
3 Detroit Tim Tebow # QB Florida
It appears Matt Millen's days in Detroit may be numbered. The only way the Lions should draft a player like Tim Tebow is if the right front office and coaching staff are in place. Tebow needs work on the fundamentals of a pro style offense.
4 Cleveland Chris Wells # RB Ohio St
The Browns are on their way to a disappointing season and finding an explosive running back is a must. Wells may be injured now, but he will look like a top 5 pick by the end of the year
5 Oakland George Selvie # DE South Florida
Al Davis is desperate for a pass rushing end to complement Derrick Burgess. I expect the Raiders to take a tumble once Lane Kiffin is fired
6 Houston Michael Johnson DE Georgia Tech
The Texans still have a number of holes on their football team. One of the biggest holes is a complementary pass rusher to play opposite of Mario Williams
7 Cincinnati Andre Smith # OT Alabama
Levi Jones looks like a matador at left tackle and if Carson Palmer is going to last in Cincinnati, the Bengals must address their anemic and overpaid offensive line.
8 Atlanta Michael Crabtree # WR Texas Tech
The offense is young and talented and adding a big play threat like Michael Crabtree could pay immediate dividends
9 Miami Malcolm Jenkins CB Ohio St
The Dolphins front seven continues to get better and adding a shut down corner like Malcolm Jenkins can take it to another level
10 Baltimore DJ Moore # CB Vanderbilt
The Ravens considered drafting a corner last year, but Jacksonville's trade offer was too good to pass on. Moore is one of the fastest rising players at any position
11 NY Jets Knowshown Moreno # RB Georgia
The Jets are still trying to replace Curtis Martin and with an aging Brett Favre at quarterback, this team has to improve its running game. The Jets would have taken Darren McFadden over Vernon Gholston if he were on the board last year.
12 Seattle Jeremy Maclin # WR Missouri
Maclin is a game changer and will contribute immediately to a team with a depleted receiving corps
13 New England Rey Maualuga LB USC
The Patriot defense is showing its age and a successful Bill Belicheck offense always starts with strong inside linebackers. Mayo and Maualuga would provide solid anchors for years to come
14 Washington Taylor Mays S USC
If Taylor Mays is still on the board, they will have found an on the field replacement for the late Sean Taylor
15 Tampa Bay Darius Heyward-Bey # WR Maryland
A solid combination of size and speed. Continues to improve route running. Could be a top 5 pick in 2010 if he decides to stay one more year
16 Chicago Vontae Davis# CB Illinois
The Bears have an overrated secondary that could use a major upgrade at corner
17 Arizona James Laurinitis LB Ohio St
Laurinitis will fall in the draft because of his lack of sideline to sideline speed. The Cardinals are making progress under Ken Whisenhunt and Laurinitis is th type of guy who can lead on and off the field
18 San Diego Phil Loadholt OT Oklahoma
The Chargers are loaded with talent at every position except offensive tackle. Loadholt is a mauler who is an instant upgrade at right tackle
19 Minnesota Tyson Jackson DE LSU
The Vikings still have needs at DE despite trading for Jared Allen
20 New Orleans Aaron Curry OLB Wake Forest
The Saints defense continues to struggle and it all starts in their front seven. Curry is a versatile LB who can start immediately on the outside
21 San Francisco Brian Cushing OLB USC
The Niners still lack a consistent pass rush and Cushing is ideal to play either outside in a 3-4 or strong side in a 4-3. The Niners like to run a hybrid scheme
22 Pittsburgh Eugene Monroe OT Virginia
The Steelers have a great run blocking offensive line but their pass blocking skills could use an upgrade
23 Jacksonville Duke Robinson G Oklahoma
Jacksonville has had a number of injuries on the interior part of their offensive line this year. The Jags rely on their running game too much not to address this need
24 NY Giants Daryl Beckwith LB LSU
Beckwith is an instinctive player who can play all three linebacker positions. The Giants line backing corps is still rebuilding
25 Philadelphia (from Carolina) William Moore S Missouri
The Eagles have tremendous corners, but the safeties are aging. Don't be surprised if Philly packages their two first rounders to move up and get an offensive tackle
26 Tennessee Alex Mack C Cal
The Titans can win ugly because of their talent up front on both sides. I can see Jeff Fisher drafting Alex Mack on talent alone
27 Buffalo Paria Jerry DT Ole Miss
The Bills have draft well in recent years and adding depth to the defensive line will be a priority this offseason
28 Philadelphia Ciron Black # OT LSU
Ciron Black is good enough to make it into the top ten with a strong combine. Right now I have him as a mid to late first round pick, but there is no way he would make it past Philly twice
29 Green Bay Fili Moala DT USC
The Packers are loaded with young talent, but still lack depth at the defensive tackle spot
30 Denver Charles Scott # RB LSU
Scott is one of the fast rising stars in college football. The size and speed combination reminds me a lot of Marion Barber
31 Indianapolis Myron Rolle # S Florida St
The Colts rely on Bob Sanders way too much on the defensive side of the ball. Rolle can play either safety spot
32 Dallas Percy Harvin # WR Florida
Harvin is the most unique player in college football. He can line up at RB, WR or KR and make a big time impact. With Terrell Owens not getting any younger this would be a great draft pick by Dallas
